6 miles!!!

Yep...I havent updated my blog in weeks. :( Sorry about that.

March 28th 2009
I can run again!!!! Couple of weeks ago, we ran the Lake Merritt loop. It is a 3 mile loop around the lake. I had decided to do 6 miles on that day. I came in just after 8 and didnt realize that the run wouldnt start until 8:30. So me and another girl decided to run before the team started, so we started maybe 15 minutes before the rest of the team. Generally, I was used to running in the cold and that's how I was dressed but it was so hot that day that I had to remove one layer. I just had one bottle of water with me. After about 1.5 miles I felt too tired cause of the heat. I guess I hadnt had a proper breakfast as well. So I took out a granola bar from my pouch and ate that. I usually need one when I am running higher mileages. After my first loop of 3 miles, I thought I wont be able to run and had almost given up.

By this time, a lot of people from the team who had started later had already caught up with me. Then after seeing so many people going for another lap, I needed to do another lap. I love to run in a group and dont like it when I need to run alone. So I mixed in with the herd and started my second lap. I was looking for company to run with. After running a short distance I met Sam. He is a run/walk participant and he sometimes comes to the Thursday track workout in Fremont. I decided to run with Sam. Running with someone else always gives me this strength to run which I thought I didnt have before. Sam is great company. I did some run/walk with him and that helps when the mileage gets higher. So you run for 3 minutes and walk for 30 sec. My knee wasnt so bad either. I think the ice and heat therapy is really helping me.

So again I ran farther than I had run before. I am go happy :) 6 miles was an achievement. However, it did take me some time to recover. I slept for almost 2 hours after coming back, but I am so glad I can run again. Yipee!!!!!! After running just 2 miles for a couple of weeks I was frustrated that I couldnt run more like the rest of the team. I am so glad I am back to running.
